On the 24th July 2018, Learning Through The Arts attended The Susan de Mont mentoring and Community Recognition awards, hosted by Plias Resettlement at the Sattavis Patidar Centre.

This very special event paid tribute to the work of Susan de Mont and recognised the contributions of a great range of exceptional local people and organisations working in the borough of Brent to make a difference to local lives. Susan de Mont was particularly passionate about supporting the development of women; particularly those from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds and projects, organisations and individuals were recognised for their commitment to this field.

As well as a nomination for Learning Through The Arts for ‘Award in Excellence for Voluntary/Community organisations supporting women and families’, we also had the privilege of offering some poetry recitals, commemorating the life and work of Susan. These were written and performed by members of our regular creative writing group- Charles Adams, Vance McCAll and Leela Kelly.

It was an honour to be a part of such a special evening and we look forward to this becoming an annual event.

With special thanks and appreciation to the donor Alex de Mont.
